Courtney Roth (she/they) is a naturalist illustrator + tattooer gratefully practicing in the beautiful Green Mountains of Vermont (formally located in Portland OR). Their work is a love letter to the natural world, celebrating the abundance of beautiful, strange, complex systems of life that we share this planet with. They consider each piece a meditation: committing to fully appreciating and processing the intricacies of the life forms we may pass by every day and never truly see. A lifelong painter and illustrator, Courtney has always turned to art as a way to reconnect with the natural world and to encourage others to do the same. Themes they often explore include herbalism, herbal astrology, local ecology, and pre-Christian European paganism. When possible, they enjoy gardening and growing their own references, thus incorporating all parts of the natural life cycle into their work: seeding, nurturing, harvesting, and composting. As a tattooer, they have the opportunity to add yet another dimension to this meditation on the natural world: immortalizing the connection between the client and the subject on skin. Practicing this ancient craft is a unique privilege that they are eternally grateful for.
