Spring Awakening Herbal Tisane
Our Spring Awakening blend highlights nutritionally robust nettles to move stagnant energy in the body that can accumulate over winter. Harvested, dried and carefully hand-processed just weeks ago (April 9th) so it’s incredibly fresh and potent.
The nettles are balanced with soothing rose, marshmallow root, and oats to help hydrate and nourish from the inside out. Making this a beneficial herbal infusion for skin clarity.
The combined herbal actions are referred to as an “alterative”, which are plants that gradually restore the proper function of the body and increase health and vitality.
The taste is mellow and herbaceous with hints of green tea. Some may pick up on salty notes from the nettle. It’s delightful with or without honey/sweetener of choice.
Nettles are a staple in many herbalist apothecaries. Used in cooking and of course various infusions like a tisane. This humble herb is considered "trophorestorative" given it’s one of the most nutritionally dense herbs; contains iron, calcium, magnesium, silicon, potassium, manganese zinc, copper, and chromium. Alongside vitamin K, vitamin C, and most of the B vitamins.
As a water infusion, it boosts hydration and supports the processing of cellular waste (moving stagnation).
In evidence-based research, it has been shown to have antioxidant, inflammation modulation, and tissue-tonifying effects on many organs and body systems. With an affinity to the kidneys, hormonal functions, skin, muscles, and liver.
As noted in the Herb Rally publication, “an Irish folk remedy suggests eating nettle soup three times in the month of May, beginning May 1st, which we know as the springtime celebration of Beltane.” In order to aid rheumatoid ailments all year long.
Formulas that use Rose often radiate on an emotional level to support the nervous system. With so many of us under stress that results in fatigue and inflammation, rose makes a wonderful addition to heighten calming benefits. Gathered from the Live Botanical Garden.
Oat tops, especially freshly extracted milky oats are an important nervous system restorative herb.
In a dried tea form they provide minerals like nettles and softening properties like marshmallow. In this blend, they’re added as an energetic modifier to cool down the overall warming aspect of nettles and balance cleansing functions. Sourced from a local organic herb farm.
Demulcent Marshmallow Root soothes stressed tissues that can be common in modern-day living. The emollient coating can soothe while supporting nutritional absorption. It’s a common pairing with nettles to improve the replenishment of minerals. Gathered from the Live Botanical Garden.
Dandelion Leaves pair beautifully with the nettles as the young leaves are also a nutritional powerhouse. Often one of the first plants that herbalists become familiar with due to their commonality. Many see it as a weed, though plant people see them as an important ally for health.
Noted as reducing bloat and aiding in digestion where some show improved immunity function. Sourced from a local organic herb farm.
For a light tea...
- Take 1 tablespoon of herb and place it in a diffuser.
- Pour in 8-12 oz of water and let it infuse for 10 minutes. We recommend covering your cup while it’s steeping to enhance flavor and benefits.
For a more intensive brew. This long infusion allows more minerals and compounds to be extracted more fully.
- Use 2-3 tablespoons of the herb in a large vessel (a 16-32 oz mason jar works well).
- Pour in boiling water and let sit for 2-8 hours. Cover until you’re ready to strain.
- Filter the herbs with muslin, cheesecloth, or tea strainer.
When you’re ready to enjoy, take a moment and breathe in the aroma. During your first taste give a moment to find flavor distinctions. Both of these senses help send messages to our body to prepare for what’s ahead. When connecting with plants they often communicate with us in nonlinear ways. Drinking herbal infusions is a perfect time to sit in quiet for a few moments to notice how you feel.
